Violoncello

Guillermo Roux

, 1992

Watercolor on paper, 110 × 132cm.

A “Roux time” could be spoken of here, that time that makes flowers age but never wilt. It can be perceived in Violoncello, from 1992. Though the instrument occupies the center of the painting, it is no less important that the surrounding flowers. There is neither competition nor tension, but a coexistence. Everything is arranged as if by chance. The harmony of thescene is achieved to a large extent through color. Dark green tones and the gamut ranging from beige to brown give it a Renaissance distinctiveness. On the other hand, Flores azules en vaso capodimonte (Blue Flowers in a Capodimonte Vase), from 1995, is another piece that reveals this artist’s delicate touch. Against a gray background, he has captured the blue of living nature.
