Abstraction

Ernesto Deira

, 1984

Acrylic and oil on canvas, 98 × 130cm.

This piece is a classic example of Informalism, where the violent gesture takes priority over all else. Deira composed this canvas with strokes of black on the right side and with lighter colors, like white, gray and light blue on the other side. In the middle section areas of greenish yellow with droplets and drippings of paint stand out. Some of the black marks vaguely recall Chinese calligraphy.
